So Sad

Proving that 2006 continues to do nothing but suck ass, the delightful Manka's Inverness Lodge has been destroyed by a fire.

Jon and I had the pleasure of staying and eating there a few years ago, and had been meaning to go back for some time (in fact, Jon is pretty mad at me at the moment since my crazy schedule is what has prevented us from returning).

Everyone is safe, but the lodge will need to be entirely rebuilt.

Balls.

So weird. We'd hoped to stay there for the first time this Christmas, but we didn't call soon enough. I guess it is lucky we missed the fire, but I feel terrible for the Manka's people.

Margaret Grade - Manka's chef and co-owner - is asking people to please write up and send her their own memories of Manka's. This is very important. These testimonies will document the variety of what Manka's meant to those who visited and were guests there: a family gathering, a special evening or weekend, the very first taste of lemon-sour cream sherbet, knitting by the fire. These help demonstrate that Manka's is a living place in our memories and deserves to be restored. Please take a few minutes to remember, write and send your memories.
